Annika IJdo, born in 1985 and currently living in Amsterdam, is a singer/songwriter. She studied at the Academy of Music in Alkmaar, The Netherlands. After one year of studying musical theatre she switched to pop music, because she enjoyed writing songs and singing in bands more. We all know that this was an excellent choice, because she will successfully graduate this November.
She started singing in cover bands early in her career. She experienced the feeling of being on the road, while driving to out-of-town places almost every weekend. Luckily, her lifestyle improved when she started singing in music café the Bourbon Street in Amsterdam every Wednesday night. While preparing for her big night this month and working on her EP, there was little time left to focus on her next step. However, she promises to continue pursuing her dream and we have no doubt that she will succeed.
About her style; Annika broadened her horizon by living and studying in Memphis, Tennessee. This is not a coincidence, because she has always been fond of that particular sound of country music. She attended the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music and Performing Arts at the University of Memphis. Being in the country where country music found its origin, inspired her in her writing and singing. She took the opportunity to sing and play with people who were raised with this music and she learned a great deal.
